Allendale is a 3.1 square mile, picturesque, residential
community located in northwestern Bergen County. Allendale
is bounded by the boroughs of Waldwick, Saddle River
and Ramsey, and the townships of Mahwah and Wyckoff.
Within the medium-sized shopping district in the center
of town are great restaurants, coffee bars and cafes,
numerous boutique-style retail shops, a post office
and a large supermarket. There are five churches of
various denominations in Allendale.
Two of the best known areas in town offer residents
a variety of recreational activities: The Celery Farm
and Crestwood Park. The Celery Farm is a 100+ acre
nature preserve with a glacial lake where residents
can hike trails and observe wildlife in their natural
habitat. Crestwood Park boasts 70 acres encompassing
a 9-acre sand bottom swimming and boating lake. There
are three sandy beaches, a pine grove, ballfield and
wooded wonderland for nature lovers. Allendale also
maintains several ballfields and soccer fields, and
provides small subsidies to the Senior Citizens Club
and the Youth Athletic Association. Four tennis courts
are available for use by residents when they are not
being used for tennis instruction.
The majority of Allendale's residents commute to their
employment in other areas of New Jersey or to New York
City which is only 28 miles away. Reliable commuter
transportation is provided by the New Jersey Transit
railway and bus services. A train station is located
in the center of town with several commuter parking
lots nearby that are owned and maintained by the borough
of Allendale.
Allendale's public schools demonstrate a highly held
value for education: Hillside Elementary School, Brookside
School, and Northern Highlands Regional High School
