Located in northern Bergen County between Wyckoff and
Oakland, Franklin Lakes offers a peaceful country atmosphere
with fine schools, a comprehensive library, excellent
year-round recreational programs and outstanding emergency
services. Housing ranges from the 1700's period colonials
and small cottages to modern luxury homes and estates.
In addition to neighborhood stores and shops, there are
two large shopping centers that provide quick and convenient
shopping for the town's residents.
Residents enjoy a wide choice of participation in
community affairs through recreational and social organizations.
The town offers two private clubs: the Indian Trail
Club and the Shadow Lake Club. Members are offered
swimming, tennis, boating and fishing, although no
power boats are permitted on either Franklin or Shadow
Lake. The Indian Trail Club, located on Franklin Lake,
sponsors a swimming team and has tennis and paddle
courts. Facilities at Shadow Lake Club include a swimming
pool as well as tennis and paddle courts. Also located
in Franklin Lakes is High Mountain Golf Club, a semi-private
golf and country club with a lush and challenging terrain.
Franklin Lakes has something for everyone. Equestrians
may board their horses at Bergen County Riding Stables
or Saddle Ridge Riding Academy. The Audubon Society
has a bird sanctuary and sponsors programs of interest
to bird watchers. Skiers drive to nearby Campgaw Ski
Center located only a short drive down Campgaw Road.
Some of the social organizations in town include the
Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps (volunteer); Franklin
Lakes Fire Department (volunteer), Chamber of Commerce,
League of Women Voters, Sports Association, Franklin
Lakes Women's Club, Friends of the Library, Newcomers
Club, V.F.W. Post 5702, Boy Scout Troop #260 & #34,
Franklin Lakes Soccer Club, and Franklin Lakes Senior
Citizens Club.
Franklin Lakes is recognized for excellence in education.
The district serves students with three elementary
schools and two high schools: High Mountain Road School,
Woodside Avenue School, Franklin Avenue Middle School,
Indian Hills High School, and Ramapo Regional High
School (Oakland, NJ). Special education is available
