The Woman’s Retreat at the Showhouse Designed by K+K Interiors, www.kandkinteriordesign.com Ridgewood, NJ
K+K Interior Design, with designers Kristina Phillips and Kerri Pilchik at the helm, is known for balancing modern with traditional, and infusing energy and color in all of their spaces. They believe that “you should love your home, and it should tell your story. We love to transform spaces by adding function, style and most of all personality.”
For this room, their vision was to create a retreat for the woman of the house to work or relax among her collected art and objets. The designers used an original large scale abstract painting as a jumping off point for their color scheme, with its cool tones of lavender, dark teal, aqua and gray along with black, apricot and pink.
The walls were covered in a pale gray-lavender grasscloth, with a creamy, textured wool rug on the floor. The high gloss finish on the ceiling reflected the light of an original Serge Mouille fixture. The daybed was upholstered in a bold ikat fabric, and a pair of black leather vintage Arne Norell safari chairs added gravitas to the group. The white lacquered credenza functioned as storage underneath with space for mixing cocktails above. The horn mirror and pair of aqua lamps balanced the rustic with the refined. A glass and lucite desk was flanked by custom drapes – with an adjacent Rothko inspired piece adding a pop of orange and pink.
The ensuite bathroom was a nod to St. Barths, with chevron wallpaper made from water hyacinth and a large white “coral” mirror. The simple linen roman shade with raffia fringe kept the room casually chic.
